Face Life

Facelifts are a common type of cosmetic plastic surgery for individuals who wish to have a younger appearance. As people age their skin loses elasticity and begins to wrinkle. Sun exposure, heredity and extreme weight change could also have an effect. A facelift will tighten and firm the skin of the face and neck, giving patients a youthful look. Facelifts are often performed in conjunction with other facial surgeries.

It is not common for young adults to want face lifts, but it does happen. Surgeons prefer patients to be at least 18 years of age before having the procedure.

A perfect cosmetic surgery procedure is never a guarantee, and patients should weigh the benefits and consequences carefully before going ahead. Some patients end up dissatisfied with the result if it is not exactly what they had hoped for.

Since finding a good plastic surgeon in your area can be challenging, there are several search techniques you can try. We suggest starting on the internet. With online searches you can search by practice and location, so finding a list of surgeons in your area is made easy. Another common technique is by getting a personal referral from a past patient of the surgeon, or a family or friend who has had a face lift in the past. Other examples include telephone books and surgeon consultants.

Once you have narrowed your list down to a few options, you will want to meet with several of them to see what they are like. Meeting the surgeon in person will give you a good indication of whether you can feel comfortable around them. At the initial consultation you will want to discuss the changes you would like to see, your options, the procedure, and any possible risks. You will also be required to provide your medical history, and have a medical examination.

The face lift will take about 2-3 hours to complete and depending on the severity of the surgery, you will likely be permitted to go home after only a few hours. It is not necessary to stay overnight in a hospital unless your surgeon requires you to be monitored.

Pain after a face lift is minimal; however, there will likely be some tightness for the first few weeks. Bruises and swelling will also be evident immediately after the procedure, but should decrease after several days. Regular activity should be resumed gradually.
